Started 1965 as a voluntary service among group of friends headed by Mr. Tan Yap our late president at Johor Baharu . The core principal adopted was providing education for the deaf community. Mr Tan Yap stated Sign language classes with the help of Social Welfare Department in 1965. The Society For The Deaf In Selangor And Federal Territory was officially registered in 29th September 1975 in Selangor to cater the need of deaf community. In 1965, classes for deaf was conducted at Yoke Nam NTP Chinese School in Kuala Lumpur and later named as The Selangor School For Deaf, later moved to Convent Bukit Nenas in 1975 and followed by second school which was formed at Klang, Selangor on the same year. Our dream came through when SDSFT established it's very own SELANGOR SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF deaf school in Kelana Jaya, Selangor with the help of PKNS, Welfare Ministry & Ainomichi foundation of Japan. The first batch was 200 students and with 30 years of leasing for land. In the year 1984 to 1986 SDSFT represented its own deaf football team to 2nd Asia Pacific Deaf Football Championship in Kyoto Japan and Hong Kong. In 1984 SDSFT purchased its own secretariat office at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur which was being used as head quarters till today. SDSFT celebrated its silver jubilee in 2005 to thank those who made SDSFT achieved its agenda. |
